The maps presented here seek to offer an easy way to visualize the evolution of the cases of the new coronavirus, Sars Cov 2, among indigenous peoples in Maranhão. The data supporting the maps are based on information published by the Maranhão State Department of Health - SES, the Municipal Health Secretariats - SEMUS and the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics - IBGE. The maps refer to the period from 30.05 to 09.07.20.

The maps presented in this section were created in partnership with Grupo Cartografia Novo Olhar and Professor Fredson Anderson Brito de Castro, through the Atlas Covid-19 Mapi project. Professor Fredson is a member of the Center for Afro-Brazilian and Indigenous Studies (NEABI) at IFMA / Campus Coelho Neto.

The maps presented here seek to offer an easy way to visualize the evolution of the cases of the new coronavirus among the populations residing in the municipalities where the demarcated indigenous lands are located, as well as in the municipalities where there are proposals for ethnic and cultural recognition. São Luís appears on the map because of its strategic administrative political position as the state capital and because it houses city-dwelling Indians from different indigenous peoples. The data that support the maps come from information published and available on the website of the Health Department of the State of Maranhão. They are updated periodically with the new data from the epidemiological bulletins of the State and municipalities of interest, in order to monitor the degree of vulnerability of the indigenous population to COVID-19.cr

In view of the current scenario of the Covid-19 pandemic in the country, which is going through the worst phase since the first case of contamination in March 2020, continuing to make the health situation of indigenous peoples in the state visible and mapping the Covid-19 pandemic continues being a challenge. In a context of dissemination of fake news and denials that has affected the indigenous people and made it impossible to immunize the different peoples spread across the state, with a very high number of refusals, present the vaccination data and invest in their publication in a specific and differentiated way , is synonymous with love and appreciation of life.
